In the wake of Stephen Colbert‘s looming departure from his fan-favorite late-night talk show, the veteran comedian has come out to announce a star guest for what would be his last stretch of interviews. Colbert has confirmed that he will be joining forces with former President Barack Obama for an upcoming episode of his talk show, making it their sixth on-air encounter.

Stephen Colbert will be interviewing Barack Obama on May 5

On April 23, Stephen Colbert declared that he would sit down with Barack Obama on May 5, just days before “The Late Show” comes to an end.

“Folks, before we get started, I have a quick but exciting announcement,” Colbert revealed while sitting behind his desk at New York’s Ed Sullivan Theater. “Tuesday, May 5, here on The Late Show, in his first interview from the Obama Presidential Center in Chicago, I will be sitting down with former President Barack Obama.”

The Obama Foundation’s official Instagram account corroborated Colbert’s announcement with a precise and effective comment, writing, “Couch booked. Volume up. Ready to go.”

Notably, Stephen Colbert has conducted several interviews with Barack Obama. The upcoming sit-down will be their last interaction on the CBS platform. During the television host’s time at Comedy Central, where he headlined The Colbert Report, Obama made a total of three guest appearances on the show.

Since Colbert’s switch to CBS, the Democrat politician has appeared on “The Late Show” twice. Obama first agreed to appear on the CBS program in 2016, just months before his second presidential term ended.

Stephen Colbert’s highly anticipated interview with Barack Obama will be one of his last sit-downs, as “The Late Show” concludes its run shortly after. With CBS pulling the plug on Colbert’s series in 2025, the fan-favorite talk show will air its final episode on May 21.
