Steve Rogers is officially returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Several days after an in-theater-only teaser for *Avengers: Doomsday* leaked online, Marvel Studios has released the teaser marking Chris Evans' return to the role after several years. Fans last saw Evans and Rogers when he passed the torch — er, shield — to longtime pal and fellow superhero Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) and retired from super-heroics at the conclusion of 2019's *Avengers: Endgame*.
The former Man Out of Time then time-traveled back to the past so he could have a life with Hayley Atwell's Peggy Carter.
In the released teaser, Steve seems to be very content with his retirement plans. The former Captain America is shown parking his motorcycle in front of a cozy house, heading inside, and checking out his old uniform. But Steve returns the uniform to its drawer, an apt metaphor to putting away his hero-ing duties, and picks up a bouncing new baby as the camera pans around to reveal Evans' face.
The teaser ends with the note that "Steve Rogers will return in *Avengers: Doomsday*," with a countdown to the movie's debut next year.
Although Evans previously seemed adamant that Steve wouldn't be back onscreen, and even went on record to say he was "happily retired," his tune changed as more of *Doomsday* was announced to fans.
In a separate interview, he said, "It's sad to not be back with the band, but I'm sure they're doing something incredible, and I'm sure it's going to be that much harder when it comes out, and you feel like you weren't invited to the party." Everyone is a allowed a little FOMO every now and again!

Iron Man veteran Robert Downey Jr. will also return to the MCU, this time as supervillain Victor von Doom. The character was teased in a post-credits sequence at the end of this past summer's *The Fantastic Four: First Steps*, though the camera never showed the actor's face beneath the green cloak. That film further teased Doom's arrival when a camera panned across the United Nations to reveal a vacant seat for the country of Latveria, the character's home turf.
