Should any film producers out there ever strive to turn Ethan Hawke's life into a movie, he knows exactly who to cast as himself.
Hawke, 55, gave PEOPLE a simple answer to the age-old question for actors — who would you have play yourself in a biopic about your life? — on the red carpet at the 2025 Gotham Awards on Monday, Dec. 1. "My son," he says, bestowing the theoretical honor upon his only son Levon Roan Thurman-Hawke.
Ethan shares Levon, 23, and his oldest daughter Maya, 27, with ex-wife Uma Thurman, whom he was married to from 1998 to 2005. The four-time Academy Award nominee also shares daughters Clementine Jean Hawke, 17, and Indiana Hawke, 14, with wife Ryan Shawhughes.

Fortunately for the theoretical Ethan biopic, Levon has embarked on an acting career of his own over the last two years. Levon made his onscreen debut in the 2023 Apple TV+ series The Crowded Room and made his first film appearance in a family affair with last year's Wildcat, a movie that Ethan directed and Levon's sister Maya starred in as author Flannery O'Connor.
In 2024, Levon appeared in Zoë Kravitz's directorial debut, Blink Twice, among the movie's ensemble cast, as well as in an action-thriller titled The Thicket. Most recently, he appeared alongside Timothée Chalamet in the upcoming 1950s-set table tennis thriller Marty Supreme.

Ethan and Thurman, 55, received intense public scrutiny throughout their marriage and divorce in the late '90s and early 2000s. He opened up briefly about going through a divorce as someone in the public eye during an interview with the U.K.'s The Times in November. "I’m so envious of people who have amicable splits," he said at the time. "I can’t really talk about this because I vowed to my kids so many times not to talk about the divorce in public."
Ethan himself was recently thrust into the awards season conversation when he received acting nominations for his performance in Blue Moon at the 2026 Critics' Choice Awards and 2026 Golden Globe Awards. He is nominated alongside Chalamet, 29, at both awards ceremonies.
